Pedigree 一词源自古法语pied de gru（鹤脚），由于在古代手稿中，血缘关系是用一种分叉的符号来表示，类似于谱系图（genealogical chart）中的家族分支线，而这个符号看起来就像鸟的脚印，于是英语里就用 pedigree 表示“（动物的）纯种系谱”或“（人的）家谱、门第、世系”，一般多用于形容背景显赫或者不俗的家族，
