Feat 一词源自拉丁语factum（完成的事情），14世纪中期经古法语fait（行动、行为、成就）以及英国法语fet进入英语后，原本也是用来表示“行动、行为”。等到了15世纪后， feat 开始从源自法语fait d'armes（英勇事迹）的短语 feat of arms 发展出今天的主要含义指“功绩、业绩、英勇事迹”，常作褒义词用来形容需要极大勇气、技巧或力量的成就或壮举，
比如：
Crossing the North Pole on foot was an epic feat of human endeavour.徒步穿越北极是人类探索领域的一次壮举。
