Acquiesce 一词源自拉丁语acquiescere/adquiescere(安静下来、保持静止、休息、休憩),17世纪10年代经法语acquiescer(屈服或同意;静止不动)进入英语,最初也是用来表示“保持静止”,不过这一含义现已过时。等到了17世纪中期后, acquiesce 开始发展出现在的常用含义指“默许、默认、默从、默然接受、默然同意”,常作正式用语并搭配介词 in 或 to 使用,强调在不情愿或不同意的情况下,被动地、沉默地或不反对地接受或服从某事,
