熟词僻义 | import 是一种怎样的重要？
后，有小伙伴留言提到 purport 这个与 import 既结尾相同又含义略有联系的单词，今天小站（微信公众号：田间小站）就来专门聊聊。
Purport 一词源自古法语
porport
（内容、大意），15世纪初进入英语后主要用作正式名词表示“主要意思、大意、主旨”，即文字材料或口语表达想要传达或传授的中心思想，强调指作者或说话者的实质意图，比如：
我没有把信读完，但我想这封信的大意是说他至少一年不回来。我老早就知道他从未偏离自己最初的计划。

from his original plan.
这个概念自16世纪20年代起衍生出动词含义，除了自然表示文件、演说等“意指、说明、表明”外，更发展为一个正式的贬义词表示“自称、标榜”，强调事实可能并非如此或者说并不令人轻易信服，比如：
他们声称自己代表了该校大多数学生家长的愿望。事实上，他们并不知道如何帮助学生渡过学习高原阶段。

而进一步衍生出来的形容词 purported 和 purportedly 则相应表示“据称的、传言的”和“据称、据传”，用这个词时倾向于对所声称的内容免责，强调传闻而已，比如：
他用她自己的围巾把她勒死了。但他那么会花言巧语，以至于骗过了所有的人。这里就是传闻中的罪案发生地点。
